The visual novel aspect occurs early on at the game’s opening. Think of it like an erotica beginning that gets you hotly into the plot. This doesn’t take long to get through and certainly adds a beneficial layer to the game.
Ultimately, you’ll end up in a full-on dating simulation. So that erotica opening helps captivate and entice you into the lay of the land.
How It Works
The central functions of Love and Sex: Second Base take place inside the house. From a spatial, physical perspective, you’re character moves between rooms as you see fit. But you can leave the house and visit a bar, or hang in the city. You can get a job if you desire making some cash.
Those aformentioned items act as your base life. The girls, however, enable a world of distractions to all of that. They live with you. They pay rent. They go shopping. Sometimes, they may clean.

There’s another aspect to the game – your vitality. You need to eat and take care of yourself. And, absurdly, you’ll need to poop. Don’t worry, nothing graphic going on there, but you do need visits to the bathroom. You’re depicted as person, and persons poop.
If you don’t keep yourself clean, forget about sexy times. If you choose to deplete your character of cleanliness and eating, you’re character is certain to bother you about it. And that can take over the game (in a bad way).
Remember, the ultimate goal is dating these hotties. You can’t do that if you are starved and don’t shower.
Love and Sex: Second Base simulates real life. That’s the concept. It’s a slow game that builds up to sex scenes.

Overall, Love and Sex: Second Base features excellent graphics to compliment it’s erotica styling. Its pretty toon-driven, of course. It’s hip. One of the girls sometimes wears a Nine Inch Nails shirt.
The Bad
The game is slow. This isn’t a typical porn game where you can speed up to the “hot stuff.” You can’t bypass any of that. It takes time to get to the sexy stuff. And in reality, this is a visual novel. You must enjoy the reading and build-up.
